Campaign Coordinator

Location: Telluride, CO

Sheep Mountain Alliance is a 30-year-old nonprofit organization dedicated to conservation of the environment in the Telluride region and southwest Colorado. We strive to protect regional ecosystems, wildlife habitats, and watersheds through advocacy, activism, and outreach that empowers and educates our community. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work first hand on environmental issues ranging from mining cleanup to forest health, while gaining experience in community organizing, nonprofit administration, and public lands policy.


Your Position with Sheep Mountain Alliance

As SMA’s Campaign Coordinator, you will assume various roles within SMA’s outreach and public campaign efforts and assist SMA’s Executive Director with day-to-day operations.


Essential functions

SMA’s Campaign Coordinator will be essential to augmenting SMA’s campaign efforts through public outreach, event organization, research, media management and grant writing. They will represent SMA in public engagement efforts and help SMA to form strategic and synergistic partnerships with individuals, organizations and political stakeholders. They will organize both fundraising and educational events to engage SMA’s membership and beyond. They will bolster campaign initiatives through independent research efforts and help to distill information for media content. They will write editorials for the local newspaper and draft grants to underwrite campaign and organizational operations. Lastly, they will readily support the ED’s dynamic needs and help to improve SMA’s daily functionality.


Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies or related field and at least one year of non-profit experience
  • Self-motivated, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to maintain and seek out relationships with sensitivity and professionalism
  • Experience managing diverse obligations and deadlines and willingness to problem solve and adapt to shifting priorities
  • Demonstrated professional writing and editing skills (grant writing experience appreciated)
  • Proactive and forward-thinking individual who will find new and creative ways to engage SMA’s membership and community
  • Strong personal interest and commitment to on-the-ground environmental work.
  • Social media and website management experience preferred
  • Spanish fluency a plus but not required
