GMUG Open House

GMUG FOREST PLAN REVISION OPEN HOUSE
Thursday, August 10th 5:30-7:30 pm at the Wilkinson Public Library Program.

Please join the Forest Service to talk about the future of YOUR public lands.

Continue the conversation afterward with the Telluride Mountain Club, Sheep Mountain Alliance, and the Outdoor Alliance, over an informal happy hour with drink specials at OAK, starting at 7:30.

What is the GMUG?
The GMUG is the Grand Mesa Uncompahgre Gunnison National Forest. It covers 3,161,900 of public lands in Mesa, Delta, Montrose, Ouray, Gunnison, San Miguel, Saguache, and Garfield counties, and includes 5 ranger districts. Telluride is right in the middle of the Uncompahgre Mountain division of the GMUG.

What is a Forest Plan?
The Forest Plan is a land management guidance document. It uses scientific data, public input, and other information to decide what and where activities ranging from conservation to oil and gas leasing will be allowed to happen for decades to come on the GMUG

Why should I care?
The GMUG is currently being managed under an outdated Forest Plan that is 34 years old (from 1983!) The old Forest Plan doesn’t account for environmental impacts like climate change or the high rates of recreation we see today. This is your chance to have a say in the future of your land. The Forest Service is required to consider every comment it receives, and you can truly have an impact.

Hope to see you there!
