This Wednesday, July 17th, come out for a hike and exclusive tour of the incredible Prospect Basin fens guided by hydrologist Chris Hazen.
Some of these fens are 8-12,000 years old, leftover from the last Ice Age, and they harbor a unique cohort of plants and animals. This is an incredible opportunity to experience and learn about the past, present, and future of these treasures of the San Juans.
Meet Tucker Szymkowicz of the Telluride Institute at the top of the Gondola at 9:45 am, just in front of the restrooms (other side from Allred's) to hike up to the fens.
Please RSVP as soon as possible at: https://forms.gle/ztY41AUppMuLsr9s9
Please bring water, good walking shoes, layers, bug spray, sunscreen, hiking poles if you need them, and your lunch.
From the top of the Gondola, it is approximately a 3-mile, moderate (but high-altitude!) walk in each direction to the Prospect Basin fens.
